Literacy
This week we have been starting the day with morning messages. In each message, there are a few mistakes and we have to fix them! These mistakes include, letter reversals, letters that aren't capitalized, letters that are too big or not touching the line, and letters that are too small. As well, we used our friend chunky monkey to help us chunk tricky words we may not know at first glance. It was tough, but we worked as a class to edit the message and then rewrite it.
Here is an example of a message you can use at home that I could help you edit,
Welcome home,
I hab a fun day at school. we learned about dugs today and sketched them in our visual journals
Some of the strategies we have been working on have been Lips the Fish and Chunky Monkey. Lips the Fish
Chunky Monkey
Here is how you can practice these strategies at home!
Writing:
Today and during this week we have started talking about what a sentence is, and how we know a sentence is a sentence. As we continue practicing we will be learning how to identify if a sentence is complete or incomplete and why.
Ask me if these sentences are complete:
I don't think
I love broccoli!
Can I go to the park?
we went to school today.
I like to have fun
Our next steps are starting to write our own sentences, and be able to fill these sentences with juicy words of our own!
Safety Week!
Yesterday we had our first practice Fire Drill of the year. We were out of the building in 1 minute and 50 seconds. We practiced the 3 S's of a Fire Drill: Safe, Silent and Serious.
Today we had a practice lockdown. We praticed where to sit in the room and how to be quiet and patient for the whole time.
Tomorrow we will practice our Evacuation walk to William D Pratt.
Thursday we will be talking about road safety and pedestrian cross walk procedures.
It is important to practice these skills so that we are prepared in any situation.
