This Week in Math:  This week in math we have continued with triangle math and then started to practice another strategy called number lines! Number lines help us add tricky numbers and its a good way to keep track of whether we are counting properly. Ask me how I can use a number line to solve these problems: 15+16= 28+10= 18+9= This Week in Writing:  This week in writing we have started to learn how to create a paragraph. Today, we went into detail of how to write one using the hamburger model. Today we worked with a partner to create a paragraph. Hope everyone had a great holiday break! This week we have continued to read like news reporters. Some of us took our articles that we had brought home over the break and recorded ourselves reading them. This way we were able to see where we improved in our reading and what we need to work on.  Today we reflected on our fluency checklist and talked about what parts we feel we need to work on, it was a really great self reflection! Just a reminder that we are sharing all of the videos of us reading in class everyday, if you could help me out at home to do this that would be great! It works best if you e mail them as IRIS hasnt been working so far. Family Literacy Day

Family Literacy Day  “Family literacy activities strengthen the relationship between family members which, in turn, encourages lifelong learning.” Royal Oak School will be recognizing Family Literacy Day on   Monday January 27th.   Students are invited to wear pajamas, bring a stuffy and a favourite book to share with a friend. Regular curricular activities will continue on this day so please make sure your child wears pajamas that allow them to participate in recess, gym, etc (no footed pajamas or nightgowns) Further information and ideas for home can be found at www.familyliteracyday.ca
